The "Front 9" Clinics

Every student regardless of age or ability will begin the program on the "Front 9". The Front 9 focuses on nine core concepts of the game:

1) Safety 4) Respect 7) Chipping
2) Honor 5) Confidence 8) Putting
3) Etiquette 6) Decision Making 9) Full Swing

At this stage the players will learn basic swing techniques and how to chip and putt. In addition, they will learn how to behave on and around a golf course with an emphasis on life lessons of honor, integrity, sportsmanship and self-discipline. All of the participants. equipment, clubs, range balls, instruction, and greens fees will be provided. PGA teaching professionals in addition to volunteer/mentors will promote the nine core concepts and serve as supportive role models for the kids.

The four-day program is designed to present a well-rounded introduction to both the spirit and mechanics of the game and emphasize enjoyment over ability.

Sample Schedule and Curriculum

Day 1, Monday, 2 Hours:
Welcome and introduction; safety first (zero tolerance policy), fun second, brief overview of guidelines for behavior, sponsor recognition, equipment identification and program summary (player card introduction). Divide participants into three groups of 12, (Sergio, Tiger & Duval) led by at least one teaching professional and any number of mentor/volunteers. Each group will spend 30 minutes at a putting, chipping and full swing station. After receiving instruction on the fundamentals and purpose of each type of shot, the teaching pros and volunteer/mentors will work with the participants to hone their skills and introduce applicable rules and etiquette. A snack and beverage will be provided to each participant during the rotation. Conclude with summary, question and answer session and proper handshake.

Day 2, Wednesday, 2 Hours:
Welcome, etiquette and rules review. Divide into Sergio, Tiger and Duval groups and rotate between the three teaching stations. Greater emphasis on how rules and etiquette apply on and off the course. A snack and beverage will be provided to each participant during the rotation. Conclude with summary, question and answer session and proper handshake.

Day 3, Monday, 2 Hours:
Welcome, introduction of score-cards and scoring system. Putting station will be set up as mini-course and foursomes will .play. a round as time allows. Instructors and mentor/volunteers will concentrate on marking ones ball, and determining order of play during play and at each tee box. Drills and games will require participants to concentrate on greater accuracy and demonstrate an understanding of progressing the ball from tee-to-green. A snack and beverage will be provided to each participant during the rotation. Conclude with summary, question and answer session and p oper handshake.

Day 4, Wednesday, 2 1/2 Hours:
Welcome and review. Divide into foursomes with pro or mentor/volunteer and play par 3 or executive nine in a scramble format, preferably with a shotgun start, scramble format (2 hour time limit regardless of number of hole completed). Participants must apply all of the lessons and etiquette learned over the previous three days. Snacks and beverages will be available on the course. Conclude program with player contract signing, golf quiz, award ceremony and proper handshake.
