Amazingly, the average age of a beginning golfer is 29, while only two
percent of children aged 12-17 are introduced to golf each year. The vast
majority of junior golfers come from households with annual incomes higher
than $50,000; three percent of all golfers are African-American and two percent are
Hispanic. Open Fairways hopes to alter these trends by reaching out to youth
aged 7.17, who have never had the opportunity to experience the game of
golf. Our programs are designed to challenge these young people to succeed
through an activity that allows them to step out of their comfort zone and
experience a new sense of success and personal achievement.
